History of ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research)
- 1926: Established Royal Commission of Agriculture, headed by Lord Linlithgow recommended setting up Imperial Council of Agriculture Research to promote, guide and coordinate agriculture research throughout the India.
- 16th July, 1929: ICAR was set up as registered society under the Societies Registration Act 1860. On the recommendation of Royal Commission of Agriculture.
- 1947: Name has been changed from Imperial Council of Agriculture Research to Indian Council of Agriculture Research.
- 1963: The Agriculture Review Team headed by Dr. Marion W. Parker of USDA was appointed.
- 1965: Dr. BP Pal appointed 1st DG of ICAR, he initiated All India Co-ordinated Research Project (AICRPs)
- 1966: ICAR was made a fully autonomous organization on the recommendation of Agriculture Review Team.
- 1973: Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE) was created in Ministry of food and Agriculture.
- 1973: The Agriculture Research Service (ARS) was established (Pursuant to the Gajendragadkar Report of 1972,).
- 1975: The Agriculture Scientist Recruitment Board (ASRB) was established on 1st Nov. 1975 as an independent recruitment agency in pursuance of the recommendation of the Gajendra Gadkar Committee.
President of ICAR: Union Minister of Agriculture.
Director General DG of ICAR: Secretary of DARE (Department of Agriculture Research and Education).
1st President of ICAR: Khan Bhadur Sir Mohammad Habibullah.
1st Director General DG of ICAR: Dr. B.P.Pal
