Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB) Horticulture Supervisor exam is fast approaching, and it’s important for candidates to familiarize themselves with the exam’s structure, and syllabus. PART – A
Importance and scope of horticulture; Role of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition; Nursery production of horticultural crops; Site selection, layout, planting time and methods for the establishment of orchards; Training and pruning methods in fruit crops; Sowing and planting time of vegetables, flowering annuals and flower crops, Types of the vegetable garden; seed production in vegetable crops; Landscape utilization of ornamental plants; making and maintenance of lawn; Formal and informal garden, soil, climate requirements, improved varieties, propagation methods, cultural practices, post-harvest management, and plant protection measures of important fruit, vegetable, flower and ornamental crops of Punjab.
Agriculture, its importance and branches; climate, soil, and water in relation to crop production; farm tools and implements; crop seasons; seed structure and germination; phases of plant growth and factors affecting it; classification and relative status of important crops in the state; importance of water to plants; agronomic practices, seedbed preparation, sowing, fertilizer application, weed control, harvesting, thrashing and marketing of important field crops, Land measurements, seedbed preparation; intercultural techniques; identification of field crops, their seeds and important seeds; germination of different crops; depth of seed placement in relation to seed size; methods of irrigation; familiarization of agricultural hand tools and implements; maintenance and keeping farm records, Effects of weather and climate on different crops. Importance and concepts of plant diseases of different crops. Insect pests of field crops, their importance, and management.
The PSSSB Horticulture Supervisor written exam will consist of multiple-choice questions. Participants will be required to utilize OMR sheets to answer the questions. Each question carries a weightage of 1 mark. A negative marking of 1/4 mark will be imposed for incorrect answers. The duration of the exam will be 2 hours.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

(ii) Environment issues,
(iii) Current Affairs,
(iv) Science and Technology,
(v) Economic issues,
(vi) History of India with special reference to the Indian freedom struggle movement.
(vii) Sports,
(viii) Cinema and Literature.
Logical Reasoning & Mental Ability:
- Verbal Reasoning: Coding, Decoding, Analogy, Classification, Series, Direction sense test, relations, mathematical operations, time test, the odd man out problems.
- Non-Verbal Reasoning: Series, Analogy, and Classification.
- Basic numerical skills, Percentage, Number system, LCF and HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Number series, Average, Problems based on Ages, Profit & Loss, Partnership and Mixture, Simple and Compound Interest, Work and Time, Time and Distance.
- Mensuration and Data Interpretation.
English
Basic Grammar, Subject and Verb, Adjectives and Adverbs, Synonyms, Antonyms, One Word Substitution, Fill in the Blanks, Correction in Sentences, Idioms and their meanings, Spell Checks, Adjectives, Articles, Prepositions, Direct and Indirect Speech, Active and Passive Voice, Correction in Sentences, etc.
