About Kisan Rath scheme
The Kisan Rath scheme is an Indian government scheme that aims to provide transportation services to farmers in order to help them move their products from the farm to the market.
Union Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, on 17th April 2020 launched a transport aggregator mobile application known as Kisan Rath. This application will bring together 5 lakh trucks as well as 20,000 tractors on a mobile platform for transporting agricultural produce from the farm gate to markets.
Objectives of the Kisan Rath scheme
- Provide transportation services to farmers to help them move their produce from the farm to the market
- Reduce the cost of transportation for farmers, which can help to increase their profitability
- Help farmers to access new markets and achieve better prices for their produce
- Enhance the participation of FPOs and SHGs and enable them to get a better price for the produce
- To increase the farmer’s income and help to increase the agricultural production in the country.
The scheme provides various types of transportation services to farmers, such as:
- Transporting perishable items like fruits and vegetables.
- transport of non-perishable items like grains, seeds, and livestock.
- Customized transportation for farmers who need to move their produce over long distances.
- Reverse logistics for transporting agriculture products from the mandi to the farm
- transportation for farmers’ groups and FPOs to move their produce to far-off places.
